Two Best Bets for Sunday!

The Brewers offense has been scary, and not in a good way

At The Corners won a nice parlay yesterday, going 3-0 with our three Best Bets. Here are two more from the Sunday slate!

Milwaukee Brewers at San Francisco Giants (4:05 PM ET)

Ross Stripling is set to start his third game of the season for the San Francisco Giants; he has a 6.10 ERA, but his 3.84 xFIP and 4.01 SIERA are very encouraging, especially since he faces a lackluster Brewers offense. The Brewers have been on a losing streak for the past 6 games, and this is primarily because they seem to have forgotten how to create runs. Their wRC+ number since April 23 is 72, fourth worst in the league. Yikes! Hitters like Christian Yelich and Willy Adames have averages below .235. In contrast, the Giants have three players who have been batting at .289 or higher, with LaMonte Wade boasting a .438 OBP. Adrian Houser will take on the role of starting pitcher for the Brewers. This is his first start of the year, but Houser had a 4.73 ERA in the last season and his strikeout rate was one of the lowest rates in the MLB.

Miami Marlins at Chicago Cubs (2:20 PM ET)

The Miami Marlins are in danger of being swept by the Cubs at Wrigley Field after two low-scoring victories by the Cubs on Friday (4-1) and Saturday (4-2). The Marlins send ace Sandy Alcantara to the mound on Sunday, hoping for a better offensive performance than what they have mustered so far. Alcantara (5.09) has been vulnerable this season compared to his NL Cy Young performance last year - his outings tend to be shorter and with more scoring. Although his SIERA, xERA, and xFIP numbers suggest some positive regression, his advanced metric still rank in the 40th - 50th percentile of all MLB starting pitchers. And frankly, this weekend in Chicago does not feel like the place for a starting pitcher to find his stuff. Yes, Cubs are starting Hayden Wesneski who has an ERA of 4.45 but has been effective for them overall. The Cubs offense is top ten in just about every advanced hitting category. Listen, Alcantara may find his way again, and it might happen today. But even so, it is difficult for Miami to win games if their offense does not produce runs - something it has yet to do during the series.
