Two Best Bets for Sunday Night Baseball!

Expect some offensive fireworks in Fenway tonight

First things first, At The Corners wishes Happy Mothers Day to all of our baseball-lovin’ Moms out there! Hope you find time to enjoy some Sunday night baseball this evening.

St. Louis Cardinals at Boston Red Sox (7:10 PM ET)

The Cards and Red Sox are two historic clubs with passionate, baseball-savvy fanbases who care enough about baseball to be super vocal in the middle of May. And there’s been a lot of noise (not the good kind) from supporters of these two teams in these two cities. This Sunday night baseball game is made even more fascinating by the fact that these are two remarkably similar clubs heading in remarkably different directions. The Red Sox have suffered defeats in four out of their last 5 games, pushing them to the lower end of the AL East standings. Meanwhile, the Cardinals—striving to climb out of the cellar in the NL Central—have been victors in four of their 5 games, and they have consecutive series wins for the first time this season.

Tonight’s game sees a pair of solid batting lineups confronting two subpar starting pitchers. Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas has posted a 5.40 ERA with a 5.99 xERA and a 4.23 SIERA; today he faces a red-hot Boston offense that is ranked second in MLB in wOBA (.344), third in wRC+ (114), and second in OPS (.790). On the other side of the card, the Red Sox right-hander Corey Kluber has a 6.29 ERA with a 5.73 xERA and a 4.97 SIERA, and today he faces a St. Louis offense ranked top-10 in wRC+ (108), wOBA (.327), and OPS (.749). The bullpens of both teams has been stretched in recent games—Boston, for instance, will likely rest their closer Kenley Jansen but they do have some effective arms, including Chris Martin (1.64), to stand in for Jansen. All things considered, betting the over seems the right choice here; if you can find 10, I would be bet that to -120. I will also take a flyer on the Red Sox money line because I think they’ll have all hands on deck offensively to avoid the sweep at home. And if all hands are on deck offensively for Boston, you can expect some runs scored.

  • Bet the game total OVER ten runs (-115).

  • Bet the RED SOX to win money line (+102).
